Kid Friendly Hikes in Paradise

As a fellow parent, I know just how difficult it can be to find kid-friendly hikes that the entire family will enjoy. Below I've put together our top contenders for kid-friendly hikes near the Paradise Nisqually Entrance in Mount Rainier National Park:

Nisqually Vista Loop Trail:

This is a short and easy loop trail that offers fantastic views of the Nisqually Glacier and Mount Rainier. It's only 1.2 miles long and provides a great introduction to the park for kids.

Trail of the Shadows:

This is a 0.7-mile loop trail located near Longmire. It takes you through an old-growth forest and features historical exhibits that teach about the area's history. Kids will enjoy the interpretive signs along the trail.

Myrtle Falls Trail:

This is a popular and family-friendly trail that starts from the Paradise Visitor Center. It's a short 0.4-mile hike that leads to Myrtle Falls, a picturesque waterfall with Mount Rainier as its backdrop.

Glacier Vista Trail:

This trail begins near the Paradise Visitor Center and is 1.8 miles round trip. It offers stunning views of glaciers, meadows, and surrounding peaks. Although it's slightly longer, the trail is still suitable for older kids who are up for a bit more of a challenge.

Alta Vista Trail:

This trail is a bit longer but provides amazing panoramic views of Mount Rainier and the surrounding landscapes. It's a 1.6-mile loop trail that starts from the Paradise Visitor Center and passes through beautiful wildflower meadows. The wildflowers are typically in bloom sometime between mid-July to mid-August.

Remember to check the trail conditions and weather forecast before embarking on any hike, and make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen for the kids. No matter the weather, please remember that conditions can change quickly on the mountain, so cold weather layers are a good idea to carry with you. Temperatures drop quickly in the evenings. Whatever you choose to do in the area, we hope you enjoy your time exploring and taking in the natural beauty of Mt. Tahoma (Mt. Rainier).
